Biography:
Beth Pearsall earned her MA in English Composition, her BA in English with an emphasis on teaching, and a Certificate in Teaching Reading to Adults from California State University, Sacramento. She has taught courses in basic writing, first-year composition, writing across disciplines, and writing in the disciplines at both community and four-year colleges. For the UWP, she teaches courses in expository writing, advanced composition, writing research papers, style in the essay, and business writing. Prior to her career as an instructor of composition, she accumulated 15 years experience working in corporate banking operations and risk management. Her areas of specialization include composition studies, reading instruction, and peer tutoring, and her research interests include basic writing, andragogy, and critical pedagogy. Her publications include "From "Flaws" to "Laws": Maturing through and to the Past in "The Chorus" by Rachel Haddas," Calaveras Station Literary Journal (2011), "Identity"s Historicity: Self Denial in The Remains of the Day," Calaveras Station Literary Journal (2010), and "The Value of Writing Center Tutors as Writing Tutors," CSUS Tutoring handbook (2009). Her presentations include "Space-Shifting and Role-Morphing: Learning in/from Group Tutorial Settings," International Writing Center Association Conference (2012), and "Creating a Third Space to Support Smoother Secondary Student Transitions/Institute One," California Community College Linked Learning Initiative Institute (2013).
